I‘m very excited about the mix of directors for our 2009/2010 season; We have someone new, a returning Artistic Director and an established, award-winning director on board to bring the plays of our 47th season to life.
To open our season Meg Roe will direct The Miracle Worker. Meg is an established actor and sound designer having worked at the Playhouse many times, but this is the first time she is directing for us. Our season will close with Dangerous Corner under the direction of Bill Dow. Bill was an artistic associate at the Playhouse for many years. It’s good to have him back.
Theatre Calgary’s Artistic Director, Dennis Garnhum, will direct the world premiere of Bruce Ruddell’s musical spectacle Beyond Eden, starring John Mann of the band, Spirit of the West. Dennis did such a wonderful job of Timothy Findley’s The Wars, that this will be another exciting co-production between our two theatres.
Lastly, I will direct two shows this season: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is the latest hit musical to come from Broadway and will be the perfect respite from holiday shopping. It’s just as much fun as The Drowsy Chaperone, last year’s holiday hit which I also directed. The Love List by Norm Foster is the second show that I will direct and will star the playwright himself. It’s hilarious, thought-provoking and in my opinion, one of Norm’s very best plays. I’m looking forward to directing it and to working with my friend again.
