Venue & Etiquette & Parking

The 655-seat Vancouver Playhouse Theatre is owned by the City of Vancouver and operated by Vancouver Civic Theatres. The Playhouse Theatre Company has been the major resident company of the Vancouver Playhouse since the theatre opened in 1962.

All performances are held at the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre, located in downtown Vancouver on Hamilton and Dunsmuir. The Vancouver Playhouse Theatre is situated next to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and two blocks up Dunsmuir from the Stadium skytrain station (on Translink, use 601 Hamilton Street as your destination address). See map.

Evening performances begin at 8:00pm. Matinee performances begin at 2:00pm. Click here for enhanced performances.

Live theatre is a shared experience between the actors onstage and the patrons in the audience. Talking during a show (even in a whisper), fidgeting, rustling papers or candy wrappers all disturb the actors’ concentration and disrupt the performance for others. In respect of your fellow patrons’ sensitivities, please moderate your use of perfumes and cologne.

PAGERS & CELLULAR PHONES As a courtesy to the performers and other patrons, we ask those who must have access to their pager for emergencies to please leave it with the Head Usher, who will record your seat location and contact you if the pager activates. Cellular phones, beepers and watch alarms must be turned off during the performance.

If you arrive after the performance has started, an usher will escort you to latecomer seating in the balcony, if available, at an appropriate moment during the performance. You will be able to take your regular seat at intermission.

Children six years and under are not permitted anywhere in the auditorium. The only exception will be for our Theatre for Young Audiences presentation of The Cat Came Back
